VLC media player is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player that plays most multimedia files as well as discs, devices, and network streaming protocols.
This is the port of VLC media player to the Android™ platform. VLC for Android can play any video and audio files, as well as network streams, network shares and drives, and DVD ISOs, like the desktop version of VLC.

VLC for Android™ plays most local video and audio files, as well as network streams (including adaptive streaming), DVD ISOs, like the desktop version of VLC. It also support disk shares.
All formats are supported, including MKV, MP4, AVI, MOV, Ogg, FLAC, TS, M2TS, Wv and AAC. All codecs are included with no separate downloads. It supports subtitles, Teletext and Closed Captions.
VLC for Android has a media library for audio and video files, and allows to browse folders directly.
VLC has support for multi-track audio and subtitles. It supports auto-rotation, aspect-ratio adjustments and gestures to control volume, brightness and seeking.
It also includes a widget for audio control, supports audio headsets control, cover art and a complete audio media library.

Permission Details :
• It needs “read the contents of your USB storage”, in to order to read your media files on it.
• It needs “modify or delete the contents of your USB storage”, in order to allow deletion of files and store subtitles.
• It needs “full network access”, to open network and internet streams.

User Reviews/Opinion:
- Never had a problem until today. For the first time I got my hands on a 4k x265 10 bit HDR file of Avengers Infinity War, but the hdr isn’t right. Stock video player plays it perfectly but has no sound while VLC has sound but the hdr isn’t right. I’ve got a Note 8 so my phone should be powerful enough. Don’t know what to do
- Unfortunately the background feature was changed on Android so that, although I could listen in the background, if I have to switch back to the UI it resets play to the start instead of just pausing like it used to. Still my PC fav because that doesn’t happen. Please reenable that.
- Constantly losing my position after pausing, closes randomly, plays in background when opening files from file manager rather than internally and difficult to get access to VLC yo rewind or pause. Overall very poor user experience, only good for playing unique file formats.
- Overall this app is hands down the best. The only reason I’m giving four stars is because the recent update has given me problems if the scren orientation changes when playing a video. It’s not seamless, it noticeably goes black then the video and the video also goes back 1-2 seconds so the audio will repeat. Same for PiP. I can’t use it because it’s impossible to get back to the app in landscape. It only goes in portrait and trying to go into landscape after PiP just makes the app go back to PiP.
